
Great news for Miniature Horse and Pony Owners
There was great excitement this week amongst owners and breeders of Miniature horses and ponies all over Ireland, when news arrived that the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food had approved the application to maintain the Studbook for the Irish. The Miniature Horse and Pony Society of Ireland has worked tirelessly over the past 3 years to acquire this and so great satisfaction was felt by all involved.
Horse Sport Ireland shall commence a full service from 1st February 2009 and will maintain the Studbook on behalf of the Miniature Horse and Pony Society of Ireland (MHPSI). This service will include registration of miniatures in accordance with the the approved Studbook rules, the issuing of passports, covering certificates, duplicates, change of ownership and other services that may occur.
The MHPSI shall formulate publicity and education programmes in the care, management of the Irish Miniature in two height categories measuring no more than 34 inches and more than 34 inches but not exceeding 38 inches.
Miniatures from the following breeds are eligible to enter the main section of the Studbook to take part in the cross breeding programme: Shetlands, Falabellas, British Miniature, American Miniature, Dutch Miniature, Dutch Miniature, Spotted Horse/Pony, and horses and ponies registered in the International Miniature Horse and Pony Society.
